Common Questions
Can I claim if I’m still serving?
Yes, you can initiate a claim for military hearing loss while still serving or after you have left the forces. Your career will not be negatively affected by seeking the support you are entitled to.
How long do I have to make a military claim?
Generally, you have three years from the date you first noticed your hearing loss or tinnitus to begin a claim. However, there are exceptions, so it’s always worth a free assessment.
Can I claim for tinnitus on its own?
Absolutely. Tinnitus can be a debilitating condition on its own, even if your hearing tests fall within a “normal” range. If the ringing or buzzing in your ears was caused by noise exposure during service, you may be entitled to compensation.
Will I have to pay anything to start my claim?
No. We work with experts who offer a No Win, No Fee service. There are no upfront costs, and if the claim isn’t successful, you won’t be out of pocket.
Do I need my old medical records?
Don’t worry if you don’t have them to hand. The legal specialists we connect you with can assist in requesting your service medical records as part of the evidence-gathering process.
How long does the process take?
Military claims can vary, but most take between 12 to 18 months. We aim to make this as smooth as possible, keeping you updated every step of the way without the stress.
What counts as “Housing Disrepair”?
It covers issues like persistent damp and mould, structural problems, faulty wiring, leaking pipes, or broken heating systems that your landlord has failed to fix within a reasonable timeframe.
Will I be evicted for making a claim?
No. You have legal protections as a tenant. Landlords cannot legally evict you simply for exercising your right to live in a safe, well-maintained home.
Should I stop paying my rent during a claim?
We strongly advise you to continue paying your rent as normal. Withholding rent can put you at risk of eviction for arrears. A disrepair claim is a separate legal matter to your obligation to pay rent.
Can I claim if I no longer live in the property?
Yes, you can often claim for “past disrepair” for the period you lived in the property, provided it was within the last six years. It’s best to speak with us to see if your specific situation qualifies.
How much compensation could I get?
Compensation is usually calculated based on a percentage of your rent for the period the property was in disrepair, plus additional amounts for damaged belongings or health issues caused by the conditions.
What evidence do I need to provide?
Photos of the issues, copies of emails or texts sent to your landlord, and any medical notes if the disrepair has affected your health are incredibly helpful. We can help you organise this evidence.
What does “No Win, No Fee” actually mean?
It means there are no upfront costs to you. If your claim is unsuccessful, you don’t pay any legal fees. If you win, a pre-agreed percentage is deducted from your compensation to cover the costs.
How much compensation will I receive?
Compensation varies greatly depending on the severity of the injury, loss of earnings, and required care. Our experts will provide a realistic estimate after reviewing your specific case.
Can I claim for loss of earnings?
Yes. If your injury has forced you to take time off work or has limited your ability to work in the future, we can help you recover those lost wages as part of your claim.
What if the accident was partly my fault?
You may still be able to claim. This is known as “contributory negligence.” Your compensation might be reduced by the percentage you were responsible, but you could still receive significant support.
Will I have to go to court?
The vast majority of personal injury claims (over 95%) are settled before they ever reach a courtroom. Our team and legal partners work hard to reach a fair settlement through negotiation.
How long does the assessment take?
Our initial assessment is very quick — usually just a short, friendly phone call. We’ll listen to your story and tell you straight away if we believe you have a strong case to move forward.
